Crank Sanatra
The boys from Chattanooga have brought us conceptual artistry like we’ve never heard it before. Take styling extremes, put them together side by side, and you’ve arrived at CrankSanatra. You’ll be thrust in one direction, then resurrected into another without warning, much as a great movie leads you into sweeping twists arriving at unexpected swells of unanticipated excitement. Revolutionary without being confrontational, they are like nothing in the music marketplace today.
Daring and unorthodox don’t even come close to describing the inventive mix of genres that tastefully explode through the senses and blow your mind. Chris Moree, songwriter/guitarist extraordinare, knows he has to do his homework to compete in this business. “I take nothing for granted. I don’t want CrankSanatra to ever be compared to any popular bands out there right now.” In fact, their CD “Another Wasted Summer” takes you on a progressive musical journey bringing you to an unbelievable climatic ending that definitely stands alone.
Chris, along with precision drummer Josh Cannon, experimented with their impressionistic style of music for a year and a half before adding the incomparable stylings of bassist Jake Williams. After auditioning several singers, Mote, singer, lyricist and frontman got the nod. The double-edged meanings in his lyrics allow the mind of the listener to take them exactly where they want to go. “We want people to think for themselves, instead of listening to mindless music just because it’s on the radio.”
This band, whose members come from different backgrounds, and who have equally diverse musical interests, came together and allowed this diversity to fire their passion, making for an explosive collaborative effort. Their influences range from Faith No More, Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Beach Boys, and Cab Calloway to the books of Edward Gorey, Hunter S. Thompson, and Chuck Palahniuk, just to name a few. Rock and roll, heavy metal, swing, R&B, soul, and classical film scores find a magnified new life in CrankSanatra. People feel alive in their music, as if tasting each genre again for the very first time.
In 2005, they were voted “Best New Act” in Chattanooga. And in 2006, a closing night showcase spot at the Atlantis Music Conference in Atlanta propelled them on their explosive musical trip, reaching into the minds of their followers allowing their creative genius to grab hold. Are you ready to experience this unforgettable ride for yourself?
The Front-LA
Michael (guitar/vocals), Kelly (drums), and Nick (bass) first met outside the infamous Echo nightclub in Echo Park, CA. Sharing an acerbic wit and common interests in hard distortion, melodic beauty, and fearless sincerity, the three soon found themselves sequestered in Michael’s Silverlake practice space near the Elliott Smith wall on Sunset Blvd.
After a few months of dedicated rehearsal and occasional beer drinking, they booked their first gig at the Silverlake Lounge, opening for Future Pigeon; 150 people witnessed them rock a tight set of 6 songs.
Since then, The Front has shared stages with The Thermals, Gris Gris, Earl Greyhound, Jucifer, Great Northern, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (fellow Missourian rockers and friends), and have become a fixture on the burgeoning music scene of Echo Park.
They now have over 50 shows under their collective belt, toured the West Coast, played sponsored Indie 103.1 radio shows at the Viper Room, The Knitting Factory, Little Radio, Spaceland, Safari Sam’s, El Cid, and The Prospector, among others.
And in late 2006, The Front recorded their EP Smiles and Handshakes with Mathias Schneeberger (Queens of the Stone Age, Burning Brides, Twilight Singers, Great Northern, Mark Lanegan…) which quickly earned near-religious radio play on one of L.A.’s biggest and most respected stations, Indie 103.1. The LA Weekly has also taken notice, giving the band a full-page article, as well as several favorable mentions.
The Front just completed the mastering process and final artwork for Smiles and Handshakes, and are now shopping it around to various labels. They also recently purchased a very nice van, christened “Betty White”. It will see ten of thousands of miles of U.S./Canadian soil this year, as The Front embarks on their 2 week tour of the West Coast in May, and are planning a major U.S. tour for the summer of 2007.
MISS CRAZY
A generation ago, historic rock artists like Alice Cooper, David Bowie, and KISS showed your parents that they were not living in the 50’s or 60’s anymore. These legacy bands incorporated stunning imagery and stage theatrics to elevate the standards of rock performance worldwide. Many 90’s bands like Marylin Manson, Slipknot and AFI continued the tradition in spirit, while blazing their own sonic trails. Now, a generation later, Miss Crazy arrives on Earth to reignite the flame of hard rock while honoring the visual standards set by their forefathers. Expertly produced by Ronnie Borchert, Miss Crazy is bringing the sound of excitement back to jaded music fans around the world. Your parents might compare Miss Crazy to their old favorites like Def Leppard, AC/DC, Kix, or Cinderella. However, kids today won’t have anything to compare Miss Crazy to! No other major band today sounds like Miss Crazy! We welcome you to the 75,000 strong Miss Crazy family here on MySpace and hope you enjoy the free streams of music. Add us to get updates on all the M!SS Crazy happenings and special downloads of unreleased songs. We welcome your comments and try to respond to as many as possible when we’re not on the road or in the studio. Well, actually, we’ve been known to respond from the road and the studio as well. We just love you guys!
After The Fray
The band started playing as a whole in august when we found dustin, but wesley, logan, and jason have been together for a while. daltons music scene has been dying for so long, we needed to do what we could to put something into the one passion we all shared. A few random suggestions added with some really awesome guitar parts by logan and dustin led to us finally saying we are a “band”. Things were rocky at first, we have so many different styles and genres between the four of us that one set style would be hard to make, so we decided since we are all Christians that is was going to be clean music. We all have our specific styles, but we incorporate rock, metal, hardcore, and some emo to what has evolved into After the Fray– the name took a while to decide on. jason and wesley were in english class and they read a story titled after the fray which was about some girl and her mom or something and over time that name kept coming up in all the conversations on band names, so after time the name grew on us and After the Fray stuck.
HYPNOWHEEL
HYPNOWHEEL originated in Chattanooga, TN in 1997. Initially members of different bands, the four got together to play a Halloween show as a Kiss tribute band. The ideas caught on and led to an explosion of shows including the 1999 Atlanta Kiss Convention where former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kullick sat in with the band. In 2000 they decided to take off the make-up and platforms to write original material. HYPNOWHEEL was born. With classic influences like, Black Sabbath, Kiss AC/DC, and ‘newer’ influences including Alice In Chains, Metallica, and Foo Fighters, HYPNOWHEEL incorporates all of these genres with a streaming stage performance complete with pyrotechnics, smashing guitars and the occasional fire breathing. HYPNOWHEEL’s goal is to be the band that they would enjoy listening to and watching. In 2003 HYPNOWHEEL decided to perform as a trio. HYPNOWHEEL’s debut album ” ABOUT…TIME” is now available. Apple, Jobs, AT&T sued over iPhone price cut, rebates
By Kasper Jade
Published: 01:00 PM EST
Apple Inc., along with its chief executive and exclusive U.S. iPhone wireless partner AT&T, have been hit with a new lawsuit from a disgruntled customer who charges the trio with a variety of offenses stemming from the recent iPhone price cut.
In the suit, filed Sept. 24 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Queens resident Dongmei Li accuses the parties of price discrimination, underselling, discrimination in rebates, deceptive actions, and other wrongdoings for their role in the Sept. 5th price drop on iPhone, which saw the handset’s price tag slashed an unprecedented $200 less than two months after its debut.
Li was among the thousands who waited hours in line on June 29, 2007 for her chance to purchase one of the touch-screen devices, according to the suit. When she reached the front of the line, her local Apple store only had 4GB models remaining, which she purchased anyway despite having intended to buy the larger-capacitied 8GB model.
She, like thousands of others, the suit claims, is now the victim of price discrimination in that she cannot resell her iPhone for the same profit as customers who purchased the device after price drop. Similarly, she cannot trade up to 8GB model she had initially hoped to obtain and is now left with a product that has been discontinued.
Li also feels cheated by Apple’s rebate policy because she was only offered a $100 store credit towards a future Apple store purchase when those customers who bought the same iPhone within a two week window period immediately preceding the cut received the full $200 refund under the company’s price protection policy.
Li included in her 8-page complaint historical stock graphs that show Apple’s share price to have risen in between the time it released iPhone in late June and when the company instated the price cut. She argues that this is proof that there was no sound reason for the cut, which she equated to “underselling.”
“Market conditions did not require Apple to change its price,” Li’s attorney, C. Jean Wang of Wang Law Offices, PLLC wrote in the filing. “iPhone was selling very well because Apple’s stocks were increasing since August 16, 2007 and rose as high as $144.16 on September 4, 2007, the day before Apple announced that it was cutting the price of iPhone.”
The lawsuit goes on to accuse Apple, Jobs and AT&T of forcing customers into 2-year service agreements with AT&T and imposing hefty $175 termination fees. These requirements are unfair, the suit continues, because customers who purchased the iPhone later in the year were able to utilize unlocking solutions that allowed them to forgo such terms and fees.
Given Apple’s since stated stance on this matter — and the recent consequences faced by users of unlocked iPhones in recent days — it would seem this portion of the suit is now of lesser merit.
For those claims which the Court is still likely to take into account, Li is requesting compensatory damages in the amount of $1 million, punitive damages in the amount to be determined at trial, and a court order that she is entitled to “threefold her damages , the costs involved in maintaining this action, and attorney’s fees.”
No Sex Toys on the Corporate Card Please

Many employees abuse their expense accounts—this is a fact. There have been stories of a 3 year-old’s $20,000 birthday party and a $5,000 casket for a relative’s funeral paid for with company money. Headlines noting the too common tale of executives expensing strippers don’t surprise most of us—even Barron’s, a corporate cousin of FiLife, has made the headlines.
Nothing shocks us anymore. Or so we thought, until news of a woman expensing a vibrator hit the web this week.
We’ve heard the outlandish explanations of some of these purchases before: Strippers make clients happy, and when clients are happy they are more likely to part with their money. But a vibrator? How do you explain that one? She must have really needed it. She must have also really needed to expense her electricity bills, phone bills, an iPod, jewelry, and her credit-card payments.
Her inflated report probably set off alarm bells, but don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you can get away with something more subtle. According to the American Express 2006 Expense Management Benchmark Survey, about two-thirds of the 250 companies polled said that they were looking at expense reports more carefully than in past years. Padding can result in job terminations, fines, legal action and, of course, you’ll probably have to pay the money back (the vibrator chick owed $15,000 for her myriad of purchases).
In case this is confusing for anyone, the rules here are fairly simple: Expense accounts are for job-related expenses only, like taking a client to lunch or paying for a plane ticket when you need to travel for work. Sometimes you can expense business clothing or charge books for research.
Every company’s policy is different, so if you’re not sure about a purchase, ask your boss. But vibrators are not part of the deal, even if they make you perform better at work.
St. Louis cops are staking out the guy who caught the abusive cop on tape!
Missouri: Police Stake Out Brett Darrow Home
Saint Louis, Missouri police stake out the home of young motorist whose video of an out-of-control police officer garnered international attention.
Saint Louis Police Car 65A young Saint Louis, Missouri motorist faces trouble with local police upset at the national attention his September 7 video of an out-of-control officer has drawn to ongoing problems within area law enforcement agencies. On Sunday, Brett Darrow filmed a Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department cruiser staking out his home.
“It was the first time I’ve seen it,” Darrow told TheNewspaper. “But my neighbor said he’s seen a lot of police down our dead end street since all of this happened.”
When Darrow walked outside to his 1997 Nissan Maxima, he noticed two officers sitting in a marked squad car, numbered 65. There is little question as to why the officers were there.
“As I got into the car, he started to pull up the street and he and his partner just stared me down,” Darrow explained.
The patrol car drove away as Darrow started his car and followed. Because his camera had been set to capture night-time footage, the first 45 seconds of the video is obscured. It does, however, capture the police car making questionable turning maneuvers in order to get away. Members of the police community are on the record regarding their desire to stake out Darrow’s home and harass the twenty-year-old. In late June, users of St. Louis CopTalk, an unofficial forum for Saint Louis area law enforcement, posted Darrow’s home address along with messages containing apparent death threats in retaliation for the young motorist’s taping of a DUI roadblock in November and a traffic ticket in June. One CopTalk user repeating the address wrote, “Every copper, City and County, should etch this little punks [sic] name in their [sic] memory. Brett Darrow, [address deleted], city of St. Louis.” (View screen capture of post)
This month, however, scandals within the Saint Louis Police Department which otherwise would have been a local story, gathered national attention and fueled additional resentment. Some $40,000 in cash turned up “missing” from the police evidence room on September 17. The city of St. George was forced to fire Sergeant James Kuehnlein for his threat to “come up with reasons” to “lock up” Darrow. An investigation into whether Kuehnlein’s actions merit criminal charges is under way. Darrow met on Monday with a Saint Louis County Police Department detective.
“I quickly learned that this was about finding something I did wrong and not the officer,” Darrow said.
Despite the official harassment, Darrow has been comforted by an unexpected level of support from the general public. Motorists who recognized him from various television interviews have stopped to thank him or give him the “thumbs up.” A judge also dropped charges from the June traffic stop after a Saint Louis police officer failed to show up at a trial where Darrow had been prepared to defend himself with video evidence.
